I felt infinite in the ocean once, at dusk when the water was black and the sand was ghostly blue and my eyes hadn’t adjusted to the dark and everything looked like a dreamworld. There were flocks of pelicans huddled together in the place where the waves would gently begin to roll to the shore, and they were just faint silhouettes in the gloom. My cousins and I ran down the beach and splashed our feet in the sea foam and chased the waves and let the surf rush around our ankles. The waves crashed and we ran until the moon was high in the sky and the world felt like it was ours. It’s my best beach memory <3
