Oh, thank you dear! I completely agree, and I find it irritating that so many people here are really quite depressing about everything. I try to make life beautiful, and I can see that you do as well!
I wish you all the best in 2011 darling!
oh, what a lovely year !
this year, I went on the most wonderful, beautiful trip to Northern California and saw the Pacific coast, the Sierra Nevadas and tall redwood and sequoia trees, and the most beautiful desert. I watched the most gorgeous sunset I have ever seen, while perched on a rock out at sea amongst the crashing tide and seabirds.
I saw Paris and went to the top of the Eiffel Tower, ate crêpes and mussels and macaroons, got lost on the way from the catacombs to Versailles, drank red wine, danced at the Fête de la Musique in Nîmes, and stayed with the most lovely, darling family in Provence and went to the Côte d’Azur and les Baux de Provence. I also spoke lots of French; it was difficult, but wonderful.
Then I went on a rafting trip in the Canyonlands of Utah, a gorgeous place indeed. It was so hot and dry that I used an entire tube of chapstick. I slept on a raft all through the night and marveled at the millions of stars, the most beautiful sight I have ever seen. I saw a shooting star every minute or so. Never have I seen the night sky like this! I also swam down a rapid, twice, and felt like drowning. I climbed up a canyon in time to see the sunrise, and it was beautiful. I played in the mud and got terribly dirty. I wore the same clothes for 8 days. I marveled at Native American ruins and drawings made of blood. I howled at the moon. And on the last night, I spent the night on a raft in the middle of a river, and there was a huge rockslide not 50 feet away ! Best of all, I met some extremely wonderful people and I will love them always.
In cross country, I finally reached my goal and ran my fastest yet. I failed a math class. I got my top braces off. I ate so much hummus. If you have read all of this, you are lovely and you should message me to tell me your favorite thing about 2010 !!! <3

He stood staring into the wood for a minute, then said: ‘What is it about the English countryside - why is the beauty so much more than visual? Why does it touch one so?’
He sounded faintly sad. Perhaps he finds beauty saddening - I do myself sometimes. Once when I was quite little I asked Father why this was and he explained that it was due to our knowledge of beauty’s evanescence, which reminds us that we ourselves shall die. Then he said I was probably too young to understand him; but I understood him perfectly.” — I Capture The Castle, Dodie Smith. (via beau-coup)

Lyra learns to her great cost that fantasy isn’t enough. She has been lying all her life, telling stories to people, making up fantasies, and suddenly she comes to a point where that’s not enough. All she can do is tell the truth. She tells the truth about her childhood, about the experiences she had in Oxford, and that is what saves her. True experience, not fantasy — reality, not lies — is what saves us in the end.
